WHAT CAN WE RECYCLE IN PERRY COUNTY? Glass:
-Clear & Brown beverage bottles
*Remove all plastic/metal lids and rings. Plastics:
-Milk jugs, pop bottles & other
containers with #1 or #2 in recycling
triangle near the bottom of container

Aluminum Cans:

Steel Food Cans:
-All “tin” and steel food cans are accepted

NOTE: Always rinse all food and beverage containers. This helps maintain sanitary working conditions for employees. Labels may be left on. Newspapers:
-Newspapers may be bagged or thrown in loose.
-Slick, glossy magazines are also accepted. Bag glossy separately from non-glossy papers

Corrugated Cardboard & Paperboard box materials:
-All non-colored corrugated boxes. Please flatten boxes to save space! This includes cereal boxes, pop boxes and other thin pasteboard materials. Placing items in bins that cannot recycle causes problems and costs money!! Thanks for recycling the right way! WHAT WE DO NOT TAKE AT THE DROP-OFF BINS...AND WHY

Light bulbs, window glass! All glass is not created equal! The glass in these items is not something you want mixed into new glass bottles!

#3- #7 Plastics, plastic toys, etc…
…other than beverage containers with # 1 or #2 on them! Just as brown glass is different from clear glass, a # 5 plastic tub is not the same as a #1 pop bottle… Different types of plastics cannot successfully be merged together into a usable product… contamination costs the recycling facility time to sort and can cost them by lowering the price they receive for their finished product. Manufacturers end up with contaminated product which costs them money; guess who pays in the end if their final product costs them more? ...You and me!

No bags in the recycling! Dump recycling in loose then take the bag with you.
*shredded paper is the ONLY exception to this rule*
Bags can be recycled at Kroger.

♻️ Meme Monday! ♻️

One bag to jam them all. 💍😂

Plastic bags and wrap can tangle around sorting equipment and bring recycling to a halt. Keep these soft plastics out of our recycling bins!

Your quest: drop recyclables in loose and take your bags home to reuse. 🧙‍♂️

Crooksville 4th graders learned about composting, what things decompose and built their compost experiment. For the experiment students added food and trash items to add to their compost bins. They then predicted if the item will decompose or stay the same. In the Spring students will go through their compost bins to see if their predictions were right & see what decomposers we can find.

Happy first day of fall & pumpkin pie spice season!
Remember that after you finish your drink the cup belongs in the trash. Paper cups and most plastic cups do NOT go in the recycling.

There are different types of plastic & the most plastic cups are a type we do NOT accept in Perry County. Perry County only accepts #1 & #2 plastics.
McDonald's, Wendy's, Dunkin & Starbucks are all #5 plastic cups (does NOT go in Perry Co. recycling).
To know what type of plastic you have look somewhere near the bottom for the recycle symbol ♻ with a number in it. If its a one #1 or #2 you can recycle it. If its a #3- #7 it goes in the trash.

To dispose of old/unwanted paint cans must have dry paint or be empty. NO LIQUID PAINT!
To dry paint out:
1. Mix in kitty litter, sawdust, or paint hardener until paint is solid.
2. Leave lids off-this allows your trash hauler to see paint is solid or cans are empty.
3. Throw out with regular trash on trash day.
If cans are full/nearly full & paint is still good check with local churches, housing programs, school classes, or local drama groups if they accept donations.

Do NOT put any paint (liquid or dry) or TVs in recycling bins!
