A year ago I was featured in The Hartford Courant regarding Governor Malloy’s cuts to the Earned Income Tax Credit with the help of Carlos and CT Working Families. They included this clip of me outlining some of the ways balancing the state’s budget on the backs of the working low and middle classes does a blatant disservice to our children and families.

"With three children of her own, and knowing firsthand the struggles of mid-to-lower income class families, it is small wonder that Alisha Blake wound up as the first endorsed municipal candidate for the pioneering Working Family Party. Working Families Party arrives in New London by my neighbor Amber Marie Frazier:
"Voters in New London will see a new party line this election: The Working Families Party line. The WFP is the party building a democracy that benefits all working people, not just the wealthy and well connected. I am excited to see WFP challenge the status quo to bring my city better, more competitive politics. I am equally thrilled that they’ve nominated Alisha Blake on Row C for Board of Education.
Alisha is a proud mother, activist, volunteer, and small business owner. She is exactly the kind of strong, intelligent, practical woman New London needs right now. Her passion for public investment in our children, her understanding that education represents the future prosperity of our city, and her willingness to challenge establishment politics head-on makes Alisha Blake the perfect candidate to bring the Working Families Party to our city.
I’m excited to vote for Alisha Blake on Row C this Tuesday, and I hope you do as well. My vote isn’t just a vote for the fierce advocate our students deserve, it’s also a vote for a brighter political future in New London, with Working Families Party candidates leading the way. "

Campaigning is hard work, especially when you own a business, work multiple jobs, and have young children. I am able to share my ideas with our community because of volunteers like Norm Bender. Norm is a retired union member who has been with us since our first volunteer training. He has made calls and knocked doors with us nearly every weekend. Thank you Norm!
