Our staff was at Cedar Creek Battlefield today shooting a video with The Nature Conservancy about a project we partnered on to preserve battlefield land and establish a riparian buffer along Cedar Creek!

This project is a great example of how historic preservation and environmental conservation can work hand in hand and we're just getting started! Plans are already underway for additional projects together throughout the Shenandoah Valley. Stay tuned for more!

In the coming weeks, we will kick off Phase 3 renovations at the Heater House. This important preservation project includes removing the two aging roofs (one roofed over another) and installing a brand-new roof to help protect this historic structure for generations to come.

This work is only possible because of the generosity of donors like YOU. We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to this effort, with a special thank you to Bill Holtzman, whose generous $10,000 gift helped make this project a reality.

We would also like to recognize and thank D & M Container Service, The Maryland Sutler, Gregg Ryan, QXO, and the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation for their support of this important phase and preservation initiative .🤗

Pictured are contractor PJ Stanley and Bill Holtzman, whose dedication and support are helping move this project forward! 🤝

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our campaign to restore part of the Fisher’s Hill Battlefield! It was across this ground that Union Gen. George Crook's Army of West Virginia attacked the left flank of the Confederate forces on Ramseur's Hill, resulting in a Union victory. The structures that once stood on this historic landscape have now been removed, and we’re excited to share the results of your support.

Check out the before and after photos below to see the transformation! Work is also underway for a new trail system that will connect with the existing trails at Fisher’s Hill, along with new interpretive markers to help visitors better understand the history of this important battlefield.

Thank you for helping us preserve and restore this historic landscape so it can soon be open to the public!
