Congratulations to our November Young Dem of the Month, Zaria Jones!
A South Jersey native and graduate of Paul VI High School, Zaria Jones is a junior journalism major at Howard University with a minor in political science. Her passion for public service and political engagement began in her home community, where she first got involved in politics as a volunteer with the Gloucester County Democratic Committee. That experience helped shape her commitment to civic engagement, political advocacy, and ensuring that young people have a voice in the democratic process.
Today, Zaria serves as Deputy Communications Director of the New Jersey Young Democrats, where she helps with the organization's communications efforts, highlights the work of young Democratic leaders, and keep members engaged in political organizing throughout the state.
Outside of her political work, Zaria is the founder of Own Your Narrative, a youth empowerment platform created to give young people, particularly those from underrepresented communities, a space to share their stories. Through virtual workshops focused on politics, HBCU experiences, and storytelling, she has worked to encourage young people to embrace their voices and recognize the power of their experiences.
At Howard University, Zaria serves as Vice President of Service for Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity, Inc., Zeta Phi Chapter, where she coordinates service opportunities and encourages members to remain actively engaged in serving others. She also works as a substitute teacher in Washington, D.C., where she contributes to the education and development of young students.
Looking toward the future, Zaria hopes to combine her background in journalism, passion for public policy, and commitment to community advocacy in a career in public service. After completing her education, her long-term goal is to serve in the United States Congress, where she hopes to advocate for her community and help shape policies that create meaningful opportunities for future generations.
Join us in congratulating Zaria on this well-deserved recognition!
