Each month, the OIPM produces a report that is provided to the City Council, the Ethics Review Board, and the public. In the report, the OIPM reviews the OIPM’s work in police oversight, explaining data, and providing updates and analysis on relevant issues. The data in the report captions the oversight work completed in the month – including use of force monitoring, misconduct work, community-police mediations, disciplinary proceedings monitored, and outreach activities conducted. Additionally, the OIPM highlights projects and discusses relevant developments that have occurred over the month that may impact how you’re policed. These reports are available online at www.nolaipm.gov and are summarized on our social media page. Check this post about our September report that is out now and let us know what you think.

On yesterday, the OIPM joined members of the community, NOPD, community leaders, and partner organizations for the 43rd Annual National Night Out Against Crime at Morris F.X. Jeff, Sr. Park.

It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with families and neighbors, strengthen relationships, and celebrate our shared commitment to a safer New Orleans.

Community voices, trust, and accountability are essential to public safety. We look forward to continuing these conversations and connections beyond National Night Out. Together, we can build a safer, stronger New Orleans.

The OIPM proudly sponsors the Constitutional Policing Award, first presented in October 2025 to Officer Jacob Barbe and awarded today to Officer James Hardy. We congratulate this officer and all the officers graduating as part of class #208. This graduating class brings the number of commissioned officers to 926 in the NOPD.

The award the OIPM presented today recognizes the recruit who demonstrated the highest level of skill in documenting and applying the core principles of constitutional policing during reality based training. This includes clear understanding of policy and legal standards, including reasonable suspicion, probable cause, and lawful uses of force, all reflected through detail and accurate reporting.

This award is about more than performance. It is about building a culture where constitutional policing is understood, prioritized, and practiced from day one.

Congratulations again to Officer James Hardy!

Between disciplinary hearings today, the IPM, Stella Cziment, discussed investigations with two of the Deputy Chiefs on the panel. There are different types of disciplinary hearings held by the NOPD that depend on the type of allegations being raised and the rank of the accused officer. The OIPM attends disciplinary hearings to monitor the hearings and ensure accountability is consistent, fair, and compliant with law and policy.
