During Thursday’s regular meeting, the Council honored the lives and legacies of two New Orleanians whose dedication to community, history, advocacy, and public service left a lasting impact.

The Council adopted Motion M-26-423 to designate the intersection of Lake Forest Boulevard and Wright Road as the “Taj Rudolph Honorary Intersection.” A lifelong New Orleanian and District E community advocate, Taj Rudolph dedicated his life to connecting residents with resources, addressing quality-of-life concerns, and supporting communities through challenges including the COVID-19 pandemic and Hurricane Ida. His commitment to helping others continued through his final act of organ donation.

The Council also adopted Resolution R-26-422 honoring the late Frank Perez, a historian, author, tour guide, advocate, and beloved French Quarter personality who dedicated decades to documenting and preserving New Orleans LGBTQ+ history. Through his writing, advocacy, community leadership, and work with organizations including the LGBT+ Archives Project of Louisiana, Perez helped ensure that an important part of the city’s history would continue to be shared with future generations.

The Council extends its condolences to the families, loved ones, friends, and communities of both Rudolph and Perez as New Orleans continues to honor their contributions and legacies.
