Audubon Louisiana Nature Center is located adjacent to Joe Brown Park in New Orleans East on 86 acres of hardwood bottomland forest, with modern buildings, beautiful nature trails and new programs celebrating the wonders of nature.

We spotted some turkey tail mushrooms along the nature trails! 🍄

Named for their resemblance to a turkey’s fanned-out tail feathers, these colorful fungi can be found in forests across the United States and around the world. Their bands of color vary depending on their environment and genetics, ranging from classic white and brown to shades of maroon, blue, and orange.

Fun fungi facts: Turkey tail mushrooms don’t have stalks, and unlike many other mushrooms, they have tiny pores on their undersides instead of gills. Keep an eye out for these fascinating fungi on your next nature walk!
