🚧 Meet the Mission Makers πŸ’™πŸ’›

Meet Ms. Madeline White, our operations manager at the lower school.

Ms. White loves the ways in which Morris Jeff's curriculum and school culture is enriched with the IB program, particularly the emphasis on language learning. She is herself a proud IB graduate and Spanish language learner since middle school.

"Most importantly, I treasure the MJ rule 'use kind words and actions' and know that our world is going to be changed for the better by our kind and caring students."

As an MJCS Mission Maker, thank you for embodying our school values and truly modeling what it means to be a global citizen. We are so grateful to Ms. White for the investment she shows in our students, school community, and world beyondπŸš§πŸ’™πŸ’›

πŸŽ¨πŸ“š WE WERE STUDENTS TOO! βœ‚οΈπŸ–οΈ

This week, we’ll learn more about Ms. Lydia Hill, one of our second grade teachers!

In this adorable picture, we see Ms. Hill meeting her first grade teacher. At the time she wanted to grow up to be a floristπŸ’

Though she still loves a good floral arrangement, eventually Ms. Hill would fall in love with teaching. She credits her first grade teacher, who would go on to become the principal of the elementary school, as a big inspiration.

Ms. Hill shows us that being a Relentless Learner means discovering what you love to do through your connections with others.

We were students too and we're still learning!

This week some of our students from the Upper School visited We Work The Waterways, a nonprofit that educates on maritime, shipping, and logistics industries. They got to learn more about professional opportunities and get some hands-on experience. See them in action putting out a fire!

We are so proud of our MJCS students in Roots of Strength Academy (ROSA), a NOLA Public Schools program that specializes in English language learning for newly arrived 9th-12th grade immigrants. This past Friday, the five students from MJCS celebrated 3.0 averages and growth on their Test of English Language Learning (TELL). One student was named student of the week! It is such a joy watching them grow and celebrating all their hard work πŸ’™πŸ’›β€οΈ

Our Lower School Students of the Week put their green thumbs to work alongside Ms. Lisa Sirgo, retired Lower School Co-Principal and forever a special part of our Morris Jeff family! 🌱🌻

These principled and caring gardeners planted, watered, harvested mint and seeds, discovered a passion fruit, and filled the bird feeder. They also enjoyed observing butterflies, lizards doing push-ups, and Morty munching on his brunch! πŸ’πŸ¦‹

Thank you, Ms. Sirgo, for continuing to show up, share your love of gardening with our students, and care so deeply for our school community. We are so grateful for you! πŸ’™πŸ’›

🚧 Meet the Mission Makers πŸ’™πŸ’›

Meet Asdrubal Quintero, affectionally known as β€œQ,” 5th grade teacher at the lower campus!

Q was drawn to Morris Jeff because of our commitment as an IB school to being global citizens. Q loves that education provides opportunities for connecting with other Latinos and New Orleanians, and helping to support the community.

"I strive to cultivate inclusive, diverse classrooms that base themselves in communication, empathy and inquiry. And this is the best place I could possibly do that!"

Thank you, Q, for the dedication you bring to building community in the classroom and encouraging global learning. We are so grateful for all you do as a Mission Maker at MORRIS JEFF. πŸš§πŸ’™πŸ’›
