New Sharon Fire & Rescue New Sharon Fire & Rescue is a volunteer fire department and ambulance service located at 201 E. Mark Market St. The first fire truck was purchased in 1929.

The history of the New Sharon Fire & Rescue begins as early as 1856. The department has had many leaders in that time and primarily two locations. The first location was what is now the city park building and held the fire department from 1929 to 1987 and the current Fire Station is housed at 201 E. The first ambulance was purchased in 1964. Currently the NSFR houses 9 appartus and an equipment trailer for emergency response. The main goal of the NSFR is to assist the citizens and businesses in New Sharon and the surrounding area in preventing property damage & injury. We hope to heighten your awareness of safety measures that you can take in order to prevent suffering unnecessary losses. We also want you to know that we are a group of community volunteers that are well trained and prepared to assist you in the unfortunate event that you suffer a loss due to fire or succomb to a physical ailment that requires professional assistance. All members are trained as either FFI, FFII, EMT, and additional training including HAZMAT and Confined Space.

New Sharon Fire and Rescue would like to extend our sincere thanks to Grinnell Mutual for their generous donation to assist us in upgrading our Zoll cardiac monitor/defibrillator. We are currently still in the process of raising the remaining funds needed to complete the purchase of this vital device.

What is a Zoll? What does it do?

A Zoll cardiac monitor/defibrillator is a critical piece of advanced life-saving equipment used by EMS providers. It:
• Monitors patient vital signs, including ECG (heart rhythm), respiration, oxygen saturation, and blood pressure
• Delivers defibrillation shocks to treat life-threatening heart rhythms
• Provides external cardiac pacing when needed
• Offers real-time CPR feedback, including compression depth and rate, for both adult and pediatric patients

This technology allows our ambulance personnel to deliver the highest level of pre-hospital emergency cardiac care to our community.

This device is an essential tool in providing high-quality patient care for New Sharon Fire and Rescue. We are extremely grateful for this grant and are excited to continue working toward upgrading our current monitor to better serve our community.

Thank you again to Grinnell Mutual for supporting our mission and the citizens we serve.

Celebrating 50 years of dedicated service is an incredible achievement, marking a lifetime of bravery, dedication and community protection. This milestone deserves immense gratitude, acknowledging half a century of risks taken and lives touched. Thank you Steve Gerard, for your selflessness and commitment to our community. You've worn many hats through the years; Chief, firefighter, EMT, friend, mentor and many more. You have helped train generations of first responders, some of whom have gone on to make it their full time careers. You have lead teams of volunteers in disaster areas and helped other first responders put their lives back together after they fell apart. Thank you! We appreciate you and your continued service!

Thank you, South East Iowa Anglers Club for the donation of a Humminbird Mega Live 2 Forward Facing Sonar. We are very excited to get this on our boat and start training with it.

We couldn’t be more proud of our community! ❤️
Thanks to the continued support for the South East Iowa Anglers Club, we were able to contribute part of our event proceeds to the New Sharon Fire & Rescue so they can purchase a Humminbird Mega Live 2 Forward Facing Sonar for their Rescue Boat.

This equipment will greatly assist them during water rescue operations. We are honored to help provide life-saving tools to the people who work so hard to keep us safe.

Thank you all for making this possible! 🎣🚒
