To the Mandaree Community,

Today, September 17, 2026, the Mandaree School District and Three Affiliated Tribes Law Enforcement were made aware of a threat directed toward the school through social media.

As a precautionary measure, the school was placed on lockdown while law enforcement and school administrators immediately began working together to investigate the report and ensure the safety of students and staff.

The individual responsible for the threat was quickly identified and taken into custody without incident. A search of the individual was conducted, and no weapons were located.

During the investigation, law enforcement confirmed that students and staff were safe. Once the situation was determined to be under control, the lockdown was lifted, and students were released for the remainder of the day. The individual was taken into custody and appropriate criminal charges were pursued.

We would like to remind our community that all threats of violence must be taken seriously and reported immediately. Making threats toward schools, businesses, individuals, or other locations—even through social media or electronic devices—can have serious consequences.

We also encourage parents and guardians to remain involved in their children's use of social media and electronic devices. Please consider:
• Regularly checking your children's phones and electronic devices.
• Using appropriate parental monitoring and safety applications.
• Knowing which social media platforms and accounts your children are using.
• Discussing responsible and appropriate social media use with your children.
• Encouraging children to report concerning messages, threats, or suspicious activity to a trusted adult or law enforcement.

Our children's safety is a shared responsibility. Thank you to the students, staff, parents, and community members who continue to take these matters seriously and work with law enforcement to help keep our schools and communities safe.

⚠️ COMMUNITY HIGHWAY SAFETY NOTICE — HORSES ON ROADWAYS ⚠️

The MHA Nation Police Department and Highway Safety Program are aware of the increasing community concerns regarding horses on and near our roadways, particularly Highway 22, BIA Route 12, and BIA Route 14.

We have received numerous reports and concerns from community members, and we want everyone to know that we hear you and we recognize the serious safety risk these horses can create for motorists, especially during nighttime and low-visibility conditions.

We are currently communicating with the MHA Nation Roads Department to identify areas experiencing the greatest impact and to discuss possible solutions moving forward.

We are also asking for the community’s help. If you observe horses on the roadway or creating a traffic hazard, please report them to law enforcement/dispatch. When possible, provide the roadway, nearest mile marker or landmark, direction of travel, and approximate number of horses. These reports will help us document recurring locations and better identify where the problem is most prevalent.

In the meantime, please use extra caution while traveling Highway 22, BIA 12, BIA 14, and surrounding roadways. Reduce your speed when necessary, remain alert, and be especially cautious after dark.

We acknowledge the issue, we hear the concerns from our community, and we are working with our partners to determine the safest path forward.

🚨 PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨
THREE AFFILIATED TRIBES LAW ENFORCEMENT

📱 SOCIAL MEDIA SAFETY: “CAT IN THE HAT” TREND

Three Affiliated Tribes Law Enforcement is asking parents, students, school staff, and community members to be aware of the current “Cat in the Hat” TikTok trend, which may involve threatening or concerning messages, images, or posts.
While some social media trends may appear to be jokes or pranks, threats involving schools, students, staff, or community members should always be taken seriously.

⚠️ IF YOU SEE A THREAT:
• DO NOT share, repost, or promote the threat.
• Do not engage with or challenge the person making the threat.
• Take a screenshot and preserve the information, including the username, date/time, and any relevant messages or links.
• Immediately report the information to law enforcement or a responsible school official.
• If you believe there is an immediate danger or an active threat, CALL 911.

📱 BE SAFE & RESPONSIBLE ONLINE
Social media posts can spread quickly and may have serious consequences. Think before you post, share, comment, or participate in online trends. Never make threats, even as a joke. What may seem like a prank can result in law enforcement action and potentially serious consequences.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to talk with children about responsible social media use and to remind them to report concerning content rather than sharing it.

When in doubt, report it. It is always better to report a potential threat and allow law enforcement to determine whether it is credible.

🚨 SEE SOMETHING? SAY SOMETHING.
If you see a threat, report it. If there is immediate danger, CALL 911.
