Dear NAPS member:

Please call your House Member BEFORE WEDNESDAY, JULY 19, to urge resistance to the dramatic cuts in federal and postal employee retirement benefits proposed early this year in the Administration's budget. More specific instructions on calling House members are below.

The timing and scheduling of our NAPS calls is part of a larger grassroots campaign undertaken by the federal-postal community to help defeat these disastrous budget proposals.

Next week the House will begin to consider a resolution that could include the following changes and cuts in federal retirement benefits:
Increases in employee contributions;
COLA reductions for CSRS employees;
Elimination of COLAs for FERS employees;
A high-five calculation for annuities (instead of the current high-three); and,
Elimination of the annuity supplement for those who retire before they are eligible for Social Security.
If enacted, these proposals essentially become a pay cut for current employees and a breach in the promises made to retirees over their benefits.

NAPS members should call their House Members and leave this message with the office receptionist:

AS A CONSTITUENT, POSTAL SUPERVISOR, AND A MEMBER OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF POSTAL SUPERVISORS, I ASK THE CONGRESSMAN/WOMAN OPPOSE ANY CUTS TO FEDERAL RETIREE BENEFITS AS A MEANS OF COST SAVINGS WITHIN THE FY18 HOUSE BUDGET RESOLUTION.

Call your House Representative with this simple message. You can reach their Representative's office through the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121. If you need help finding your Representative, that information can be found here: http://ziplook.house.gov/htbin/findrep?ZIP, by entering your zip code. Please encourage your fellow NAPS members to call. The success of this campaign is dependent on everyone's participation.

Thank you for your support on this matter. Your efforts strengthen NAPS and the postal community as a whole. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 703-836-9660 or at [email protected]

Best Regards,

Katie Maddocks
