On the occasion of Eid Al-Adha, Under-Secretary-General Miguel Ángel Moratinos, High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and United Nations Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia, extends his warmest greetings to Muslims around the world celebrating this sacred holiday.
"Eid Al-Adha is a time of reflection, compassion, solidarity, and generosity. It reminds us of the universal values that unite humanity — empathy, mutual care, sacrifice, and respect for human dignity," he states.
"As millions of Muslims perform Hajj – a profound spiritual journey that symbolizes unity, devotion, humility, and equality among people from all walks of life. It is also a time to extend a helping hand to the poor and vulnerable, reflecting the spirit of compassion and generosity that lies at the heart of Eid Al-Adha.
Across the Muslim world, families and communities gather in celebration and prayer. This occasion also serves as an opportunity to reaffirm our shared commitment to dialogue, peaceful coexistence , mutual respect and understanding among cultures, religions, beliefs and ethnicities.
At a time when many communities continue to face intolerance, discrimination, and acts of hatred, including Islamophobia, I reiterate the importance of upholding freedom of religion or belief and promoting respect for diversity in all societies.
May this Eid Al -Adha inspire renewed hope, peace, and solidarity across the world."
