Ambassador Tenzin R Wangchuk presented his credentials as the Permanent Representative of Bhutan to the United Nations to H.E. Mr. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations on 16 March 2026 at the UN Headquarters in New York. He is the 13th Permanent Representative of Bhutan to the United Nations.

Following the ceremony, Kutshab called on the Secretary-General. He conveyed the warm greetings of His Majesty The King, the Prime Minister, and the people of Bhutan to the Secretary-General and reaffirmed Bhutan’s commitment to multilateralism and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. He also reiterated Bhutan’s continued support for the work of the United Nations in addressing global challenges and promoting sustainable development, peace, and international cooperation.

The Secretary-General welcomed Ambassador Tenzin R Wangchuk and expressed appreciation for Bhutan’s constructive engagement and contributions to the United Nations. He also reaffirmed the UN’s continued partnership with Bhutan.

Kutshab Tenzin Wangchuk joined the civil service of Bhutan in 1993. Since then, he has served in various capacities both within Bhutan and in Bhutan’s diplomatic missions abroad. Most recently, he served as the Director-General of the Department of Economic and Tech Diplomacy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade after completing his tenure as the Permanent Representative of Bhutan to the United Nations and other International Organisations in Geneva in September 2025.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Sherubtse College, Bhutan, and a Master’s from the University of Canberra, Australia.

H.E. Ambassador Tenzin Rondel Wangchuk joined the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Bhutan to the United Nations in New York this morning as the Permanent Representative in a traditional tendrel ceremony. Members of the Bhutanese community in the United States, Bhutanese working in the United Nations, and the Mission staff offered Trashi Khadars and extended their best wishes for a successful and fruitful tenure.

WFP Bhutan Country Director, Mr. Peter Rodrigues, called on Bhutan's Ambassador to the United Nations designate in New York, Mr. Tenzin Rondel Wangchuk and updated him on WFP’s work in Bhutan.

Mr. Rodrigues highlighted WFP’s support in emergency preparedness and response, strengthening agriculture value chains to improve farmers’ incomes, and enhancing school infrastructure through the building and refurbishment of kitchens and storage facilities.

The Ambassador commended the relevance of WFP’s initiatives to Bhutan’s national priorities and expressed his strong support and advocacy for these programmes during his interactions in New York.

Ambassador was previously Ambassador to Geneva and has had long association with WFP, both in Bhutan and WFP Headquarter.

Ambassador Pema Lektup Dorji paid a farewell call on the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support, Mr. Atul Khare, following the conclusion of his tenure as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bhutan to the United Nations, upon his appointment as Foreign Secretary of Bhutan.

Mr. Khare expressed appreciation for Bhutan’s contributions to UN peacekeeping, as well as its support for the UN Environmental Strategy and the Leading Environmental Action Plan (LEAP).

Ambassador Dorji reaffirmed Bhutan’s continued commitment to peacekeeping operations and sought support for Bhutan’s upgradation to Rapid Deployment Level and the deployment of its Formed Police Unit.

Ambassador Dorji conveyed his deep gratitude and commended the Secretary-General’s steadfast leadership during a period of global uncertainty and complex challenges, as well as his deep personal commitment to peace, sustainable development, climate action, and the protection of the most vulnerable.

Ambassador Dorji also thanked the Secretary-General for his continued support to Bhutan, underscoring that the United Nations remains an indispensable partner, particularly in the post-LDC graduation phase, and reaffirmed Bhutan’s unwavering commitment to multilateralism and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.
