On the International Day of UN Peacekeepers – 29 May – we recognize the service and dedication of women and men peacekeeping personnel from Asia and the Pacific.

Gender inclusion makes UN peacekeeping missions more effective in securing peace for all.

Through the new project, we will help prepare women peacekeepers from our region for future deployment to UN peacekeeping missions globally.

Couldn't help but be a little starstruck meeting Prof. Valerie Hudson who is one of the world’s leading voices on Women, Peace and Security.

We had a rich discussion on the growing body of evidence that gender equality is one of the strongest predictors of peace and how to better translate that insight into policy and operational frameworks.

A timely exchange on advancing peace, security and resilient societies through inclusion.

Thank you to Dr. Elise Stephenson GAICD and the Global Institute for Women's Leadership at The Australian National University for facilitating.

Women are driving innovation, economic growth and more inclusive societies.

I recently met with Jill Tang, Founder of She Rewires, China’s most active women in community. Their work is connecting and backing women to succeed and break boundaries across , , , and mathematics (STEAM).

It was inspiring to see an Australian alumni making such a large impact in this space and empowering women in STEAM.

For 30 years, 21 economies have gathered for the APEC - Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation to look at how we build trade, how we build inclusiveness and how we build opportunity for our region.

Why is it important? Because it brings us together to strengthen our economies and support the stability and security of our region.

Last week in Shanghai, I joined the Women and the Economy Forum, where ministers and leaders from across our region focused on advancing women’s economic empowerment in the face of digital change, and the shared challenges and opportunities shaping gender equality across our economies.

Australia is a trading nation with one of the world’s longest coastlines lines. Maritime is not just an industry for Australia, it is fundamental to who we are and how we connect to the world. Yet the image of a seafarer we’ve inherited from culture is almost always male.

Today, on International Day for Women in Maritime 2026, we celebrate the women rewriting that story and commit to the work still ahead.

Thank you Australian Maritime Safety Authority - AMSA, AMPI, WISTA and the Nautical Institute for bringing together professionals from across the maritime industry.

There is still work to do. But together, we continue to build an inclusive and stronger maritime industry for all.

Democracy is strongest when everyone is free to live with dignity, equality and without fear.

On the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, Australia reaffirms, alongside the Equal Rights Coalition, that the fight for LGBTQIA+ equality is at the heart of democracy.

We remain committed to opposing discrimination, hate and exclusion, and to advancing equal rights for LGBTQIA+ people globally.

Online abuse is pushing women out of public life, shaping who leads and whose voices are heard.

In my recent interview for UN Women Australia with respected commentator Tracey Spicer, we discussed tech-facilitated gender-based violence and how harassment, disinformation and threats shape who feels safe to lead.

Protecting women online is not just about safety. It’s about whose voices get heard and the strength of our democracy itself.

We know that peace is more durable when women are at the table.

This week, I was honoured to open the annual Civil Society-Government Dialogue on Women, Peace and Security. For Australia, and for all of us working in this space, sustaining and advancing the WPS agenda is a a shared responsibility, and a strategic necessity.

We deeply value the role of civil society as a critical delivery partner and accountability actor in our implementation of Australia’s second National Action Plan on WPS (2021-2031).
