This Pride Month, you can help create a soft landing and a bright future for the LGBTQIA+ young adults who call Homeward NYC home. 🌸
The young adults (ages 18 to 25) who step through our doors often have carried heavy burdens from aging out of foster care to navigating the deep heartbreak of family rejection and trauma. At Homeward NYC, we believe every young person deserves a space where they can finally take a deep breath. We provide more than just a roof; we offer a warm, affirming community where they can heal, build life skills, and grow at their own pace.
One of our former residents recently shared what having this safe harbor meant to her before she moved out to her own more independent apartment:
"It was comfortable and a cozy space. And I guess there was a safety part about it too, with the security. It made me feel like I was safe. I grew a lot. I learned to manage my money... saving. It was a great starter as far as my first place. They work with the people there."
Your generosity ensures that more young people can find their footing in a place that embraces exactly who they are.

🏳️🌈 This Pride Month, let us remember that Stonewall was a riot. Change has always been a fight. Living a life where you can meet basic needs—and live openly and authentically—is a fight.
Homeward NYC’s housing and onsite services for homeless LGBTQIA young adults, young families and seniors meet essential needs. This is critical but just the first step. We believe Pride doesn’t stop at surviving. It’s also about thriving.
In this issue of Homeward News https://homeward.nyc/news-2026-06...
📰 Read how we’re responding to housing and food insecurity (like the recent federal cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP). And how in these challenging times, we support our residents’ stress management and empowerment.
You’ll also find resident stories, a thank you to family shelter volunteers, the healing power of art, and why supportive housing matters.

This May, we are proud to celebrate Older Americans Month! 🌟
The 2026 theme is "Champion Your Health," a call to action that resonates deeply with our mission at Homeward NYC. For the 40 seniors calling our Upper West Side site home, "championing health" starts with the security of a safe, affordable place to live.
Aging in place with dignity should be a right, not a privilege. By providing stable housing and trauma-informed support, we empower our older residents to:
✅ Access preventative care and wellness resources.
✅ Build social connections that combat isolation and depression.
✅ Foster intergenerational bonds with the young families in our mixed-age housing.
When our seniors thrive, our entire community is stronger. Join us this month in honoring their legacy and supporting their journey to live life forward!

At Homeward NYC, we celebrate the mothers who are rebuilding their lives with courage—creating safe, stable futures for themselves and their children after experiencing homelessness.
Every step forward is powered by resilience, community, and care. When you support Homeward NYC, you’re standing with these young mothers.

This Mother’s Day, make a gift in honor of resilient young mothers.
The homeless mothers who live at Homeward NYC’s family shelter are ages 18 to 24 with an average child age of 28 months. Their typical stay living in their transitional family shelter apartment is six to nine months. These young women are just starting adulthood—and doing so as parents. Homeward NYC supports and empowers them as individuals, young parents, and heads of household so they’re successful when they move to permanent housing.
Says one young mother (she and her son have since moved to permanent housing): “I went to every session—mommy and baby classes, business classes, CPR training, parenting, resume writing, job fairs… I didn’t want to miss anything.”

For a young mother, home is more than just a roof—it is the foundation for her child’s first steps, first words, and first dreams. At Homeward NYC, we see the incredible resilience of mothers ages 18 to 24 who are overcoming the double trauma of homelessness and domestic violence. These women are often the youngest heads of household in the New York City shelter system, yet they are determined to build a stable, bright future for their families.
