We’ll be discussing the impact of climate change on people with disabilities with guests from the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. After the CAN meeting, participants will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with benefits counselors to discuss home cooling assistance programs such as alternatives to HEAP (now closed for 2026), the Essential Plan Cooling Program, and more. This is a side event at The UN Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. CIDNY’s Dr. Sharon McLennon Wier will be speaking.

Seeds of Justice - 2026 Agricultural, Legal Equity, and the Protection of Women and Girls

The 2025-2026 Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) Cooling Assistance Benefit is scheduled to close this Friday, June 5, 2026.
If you are eligible, you may receive one HEAP Cooling Assistance benefit per applicant household for the purchase and installation of an air conditioner or a fan to help your home stay cool. If you are unable to apply for this benefit in time, please consider coming to our CAN meeting on June 17, where you can meet with a benefits counselor after the meeting to discuss other cooling benefits, or anything else you may want to ask.

Primary Election Day is Tuesday, June 23, 2026, with polls open from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. Early voting runs from Saturday, June 13, 2026 through Sunday, June 21, 2026. Below are some additional important dates to keep in mind.
• Monday, June 8, 2026: Change of Address Deadline (June Primary). This is the last day to update your address for the Primary Election.
