The Sunnyside Book Swap endorses the new costume exhibition at the Met. I didn't know what it was before I went to the preview. What struck me most is that they hauled up some of their ancient books from the vault.

Mining bees at the Book Swap.
Each small hole in the sand is the work of a solitary female mining bee. In fall, she digs a tunnel, builds chambers, places a pollen supply inside, and lays fertilized eggs. She works alone—no hive, no queen, no swarm.
By early spring, the young develop below ground, feed on the stored pollen, and emerge through the sand into the new season.
Quiet labor beneath our feet.
