Yesterday evening, FBI New York and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York announced Lu Jianwang was convicted by a jury for acting as an illegal agent of the government of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), in connection with opening and operating an overseas police station in lower Manhattan for the PRC’s Ministry of Public Security, and with obstruction of justice for destroying related evidence. When sentenced, the defendant faces up to 30 years in prison.

New York-Based Iranian National Pleads Guilty to Alien Smuggling and Receiving Child Sexual Abuse Material

Earlier today, FBI New York and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York announced the guilty plea of Douglas Engstrom, a former officer in the United States Navy. Engstrom pled guilty to attempted interstate coercion and enticement of a minor. As part of his plea agreement, Engstrom admitted that he possessed and received over 600 images and videos of child s*xual abuse material.

FBI New York, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, the New York State Police, and ATF New York announced the arrests of Malik Bromfield, Faizan Ali, and Kamal Salman, who are charged with attempting to smuggle nearly 90 fi****ms from the United States to Canada.

"These three defendants, including two foreign nationals, allegedly endangered our communities as they attempted to smuggle 89 fi****ms - 17 of which were stolen - into Canada," said ADIC Barnacle. Yesterday, FBI New York, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York and the NYPD announced the arrest and indictment of Shorai Moore with one count of committing a hate crime in connection with his assault of a gay man in April 2026. “This alleged assault traumatized an innocent victim due to his s*xual orientation,” said ADIC James C. Barnacle, Jr. “The FBI’s Hate Crimes Task Force is committed to working with our law enforcement partners to protect our communities against violence driven by hate.”

FBI New York and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York announced the guilty verdict of Dewitt John for s*xual exploitation of a child and accessing with intent to view child po*******hy. John groomed minor victims online before forcing them to produce s*xually explicit material.

The Justice Department recently announced the results of Operation Iron Pursuit, a one-month, nationwide enforcement effort to find child victims of s*x abuse and arrest child s*x predators. More than 200 child victims were located and over 350 child s*xual abuse offenders were arrested. All 56 FBI field offices and U.S. Attorneys’ offices around the country participated in the coordinated takedown effort.
