Trussed Hip Roof Hips&Valleys

04/13/2026

Proper bracket to tie truss to header. Apparently, I took out two columns and a really shoddily built header holding up these trusses and replaced them with two 6" wide flanged beams, stitch-welded together. There 1.5" between the iron and the trusses for a 2"X12" piece of lumber to go between. I am looking for the proper Simpson tie to connect the truss to the header. I have seen the common hurricane ties, but my gut is telling me that's the wrong application. What tie, if any, should I use to secure the truss to the beam? The little 2x4 is just a mock up for illistration purposes.

Came to put a building up and apparently the contractor decided to pour the pad himself so now we have this atrocity🙄

Subfloor of new townhouse, will this get fixed before it’s finished? For more information, this is on the main floor, above the garage, and what will be the dining room in between kitchen and living, all open. There seems to be a main load bearing beam right along this hump that is taller than the rest of the floor framing, that it is sitting on and raising the middle. Why they would even go ahead and nail that down is beyond me. Should I contact whoever I'm directed towards and send this photo along with a nasty email? Surely this s**t wouldn't stay this way and not be fixed by the end...right? The only "issue" I have is that I definitely was not supposed to be walking through my home at this stage, although nobody stopped me. I doubt they could do anything about it besides a slap on the wrist maybe.

I've never seen a deck built so jankey.

Break in the foundation? Does anyone know if this break would have been intentional, or if there was a problem in pouring the foundation? The foundation was poured 2-3 days prior to this photo, and the form work was removed 1-2 days prior. The rectangular area that this break in the foundation leads to is the attached garage. Seems quite concerning to me, but I wouldn't know. If this is an issue, is it one that will threaten the integrity of the bordering structure if not addressed right away? Or as long as it's dealt with, it will be fine?

Wonky or just early? Doing a bathroom reno, they just left for the night. This is the niche for the shower. Is this normal and will be covered by grouting or is this as wonky as I think?

Am I Crazy? Bought house sight unseen and had realtor send photos of repairs only when asked. Sellers replaced previous deck (much worse) with this one. Realtor praised the contractor but after 6 months this is the state of it. Pic 1/2/5/6 are of center post. Pic 3/4 are of stairs. Pic 7/8 are of where the deck connects to house. I thought surely they anchored it to concrete foundation but it seems the lag screwed it into the house siding?

This deck looked great when we moved in. Over the course of 6 months the cracks have appeared/gotten worse. And to add that contractor placed foundation blocks in line of runoff (recently installed a french drain). Also still adding to a coffee can screws/nails from previous deck demo. Central Missouri if that means anything.

Do these stairs need additional support on the back side? This is at my BIL house. The stairs wobble a decent amount when walking down. The only thing holding the stairs to the deck is that 2x8 with a few screws

Attic storage question I would like to throw a couple 1/2 boards to store some totes with light items in them in my attic. This portion is over my garage. Can those small 2x4s come out? They dont seem to be doing anything but anyones help would be greatly appreciated!

5” slab thickness? Had several quotes for a driveway install, I chose the middle of the road price from a reputable outfit in the area. They had spec’d a 5” thickness on the quote/contract. They formed it up and it seems that they framed for 4”. Called them up and they said, concrete will seep into the gravel a good 3/4” and that they’ll shovel some stone away from the forms that got pushed up by the compactor. I ran a string line myself and you can see the results… should I be pushing on them to correct the forms before pouring?
