Constructed my first "deck"
Customer owns a large house turned apartment building. We've been improving various aspects over the last year, and this was our most recent project, a common area for the rear building tenants. First deck I've done, how's it look? And yes we finished cutting in the paint, just forgot to grab a photo.

Built a deck, how I do? I'm a carpenter. I dont build decks often but a builder I frame for referenced me, and I told him I would do it. Im always learning, so if I built it again Id do it different, but I thought it came out good and the homeowners in love.

First deck build since I started my company. How’d I do so far? For context, I have some experience building decks and lots of other things with my dad and other people through the years. I finally started a company with a buddy of mine. This is our first deck together. Let me know what you think. Criticism is welcome!

Subfloor insulation advice!
Long story short I had to rip up the old subfloor and insulation due to pests. I'd like some advice on the proper way to redo the insulation and the subfloor in this addition, as I seem to be getting conflicting information online.
The whole room is on short piles, so the area below the room is completely open. The contractor failed to include anything below the fiberglass insulation and a bunch of mice and rats had taken advantage of the soft warm space.
Specially I'd like advice on:
- protecting the underside so that animals don't do the same thing again
-what kind of insulation (was thinking mineral wool)
-v***r barrier/underlayment for the LVP flooring.
I appreciate any advice yall can give. Climate is Mid-Atlantic.
Edit: damn sounds like it's worse than I thought. I'm being told that (supposedly) the reason behind the way it was built like this is that it was built over a septic drainage field, and that the existing concrete patio was far to thin to use as support.
Edit 2: I appreciate the concerns over the foundation but I think that parts the least of my worries. The rooms on 8 6x6 piers that are in 2' square footings. No the piles are not just buried in the dirt and no the thin slab is not bearing any weight.

Need Help Matching!
I’m having a hard time matching my 30 year old hardwood flooring. White Oak samples seem too dark/red with more pronounced grain.
Any thoughts for finding a match?

What should we do?
So here’s the story:
We’ve moved into a home in the UK - a lot of the decor in the house is from the 60s/70s.
We pulled up the carpet in the hallway to find this amazing Brazilian Cherry floor. It’s clear that overtime it has aged and become darker, I love it.
As you can see from the photos, the nails from the tracks have left the wood with lots of holes. It’s also quite scratched and discoloured in certain places.
We are definitely keeping the floor and want it to be on display. But we’re not 100% sure how to. Obviously the first thought would be to sand the floor, but I love the colour that it has developed to overtime. So I’d be sad to see that colour development go. How would it look if we sanded the floor and then stained it? Would it look artificial?
And the holes left over from the nails… my first thought is to use the left over saw dust from sanding. But do I even want to sand it??
Lots of advice needed - thanks in advance everyone!

First time doing laminate click flooring, I’m stuck at this last piece, Hi this is my first time doing my own flooring in my first purchased house - I did a lot of research on flooring and have managed to get into the groove of laying it okay (leaving at least 10mm gaps around - although unfortunately in some places it’s way more due to the plasterboard not going all the way to the floor)
I’ve removed the floor joiner at the door that’s pictured here btw, and I have a multitool to undercut the doorway to allow the floor to slide underneath (haven’t done it yet for this doorway) I’m struggling to see how I will get this plank to lay down as the doorway is in the way.. I have created a “cut out” area but obviously don’t want to cut it out as then there will be nothing to slide underneath the door.
These are 12mm thick planks and I need to click them in by raising them first at 45 degree angle.. and this plank I’m struggling with clicks into the one to its right side.
In hindsight I should have maybe started with the doorway and gone to the flat wall but we’re here now!
Advice appreciated thank you!

Options for bench removal? Not my doing: I want it gone. Already tore everything out down to studs for new sub floor. Might as well attempt to get this mess out while I am washing up in puddles. Short of me finding this tile and redoing roughly 6…any other options? Input. Thanks!

Is there a way to prevent this splitting at the corner?
I cut and glued this up a couple days ago. The 4 border pieces fit perfectly in a dry fit. Glued up with titebond 3 and clamped overnight. Next day unclamped and saw the large split at one corner and the others are slightly opened too but this corner was the worst. Used biscuits to align to the inner square. All Sapele (African mahogany.
I plan to trim off the 2” border pieces and try again but looking for suggestions for glue up and whether to use biscuits, dominoes, or something else. Possibly cut a tongue & groove between the inner and the border pieces…?

Question about toilet drain pipe, I am trying to get my bathroom redone. The contractor came out yesterday to do demo and also ran some plumbing. Im no plumber, but I thought drain pipes typically had to be sloped downward - this one does not. Is this acceptable or should I have it fixed before more is done?

How big a deal are the issues on this flooring install?
05/05/2026
Anyway to correct this? What would cause the finish to wear like this so fast? Did the installer not seal properly or at all? Can they be stripped and resealed to restore the finish?
