SITUATIONS is pleased to present Mi Destino, Abel Macias’ second solo exhibition at the gallery. In his latest body of work, Macias looks to memories of summer visits to Mexico from his youth. Recalling the freedom of roaming the hills of rural Jalisco and observing family members going about their days, Macias’ vibrantly rendered surreal landscapes draw inspiration from the Fauvist tradition, depicting both inner and outer worlds.
Memory becomes remodeled in the mind’s eye, not to distract from the truth but to add to the essence and how the experience of it really looks and feels. - Abel Macias
Abel Macias is a painter and muralist taking inspiration from the natural world. Focusing on a variety of kaleidoscopic landscapes, as well as folkloric imagery drawn from his Mexican heritage, Macias applies a bold, expressive palette with textural brushstrokes. Macias entertains the notion that his paintings are not merely meant to be examined from his point of view but to be experienced from a more universal lens. He actively zooms in and out of focus, capturing both the grandeur and the minutiae of his subject matter. The result is a complex overlay where background and foreground blend seamlessly, and the space between objects dissolves.

SUPPORT WHITE COLUMNS!! Renelle White Buffalo, Ellen Jong, and many others have donated work to support New York’s oldest alternative art space.
White Columns was founded in 1970 by a group of artists including Jeffrey Lew and Gordon Matta-Clark as an experimental platform for art. Over the past fifty-four years, hundreds of artists have benefited from early exposure at White Columns, whose mission is to support to artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial attention.
Hope to see you tomorrow at the benefit! If you can’t attend you can place bids online. Thank you!

Alina Bliumis “Plant Parenthood” opens today in a group show at Gallery 1882 in Chesterton IN. In this body of work, Alina composes flowers that have been used to induce abortion in various countries throughout history. On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court ruled that the Constitution of the United States does not protect the right to have an abortion. Bliumis’ series brings attention to the fact that the removal of safe, legal, medical abortions does not eliminate the means or will of women to find ways to regain control of their bodies.
