The Peacekeeping Finland exhibition opens tomorrow in the UN headquarters Delegates Entrance. It is open to UN staff between 9 am - 7 pm every day.

The exhibition showcases Finnish expertise in Peacekeeping, Peacebuilding, Mediation and Capacity building.

Former Finnish President Mr. Martti Ahtisaari founded Crisis Management Initiative after his presidency. It is a non-profit organization specializing in resolving conflicts and building sustainable peace. Mr. Ahtisaari won the Nobel and UNESCO peace prizes in 2008 and in 2007 respectively for this lifetime achievements in promoting peace. Mr. Ahtisaari joins the growing group of internationally renowned peacebuilders from Finland.

Finland was the first country in the EU in 2008 with a national level civilian crisis management strategy. Finland has also been one of the pioneers in developing civil military cooperation for peacekeeping missions. The government of Finland develops its peacebuilding capacity very actively and has established The Crisis Management Centre Finland to especially develop the civilian expertise.

Finland is a candidate for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council, allocated to the Western European and Other States Group (WEOG), for the term of 2013-2014. The election will be held during the 67th Session of the General Assembly in 2012. This page has been established to support Finland’s bid and showcase Finnish expertise in peacekeeping, civilian crisis management and peace partnerships.
