The Huntington Free Library and Reading Room opened in 1891 as a general reference library. Before it became a central hub for Bronx history, the library showcased some of the nation’s rarest collections of maps. These maps tell many stories, for some of them were produced for countries that neither exists anymore, or were absorbed by another. Although some tell a controversial tale of old style colonialism, it is a time stamp of a point in our history we all can continually learn from.
