Competition Information
Brothers and sisters will compete separately and be judged by their own gender.
1. Memorization (Please choose any ONE level only)
Each participant will memorize a surah prior to the competition date. On the day of the competition, the judge will ask the participant to recite a verse of the surah, without looking at the Quran, by prompting him/her with the beginning of the verse. The participant will read about 3-5 verses. Points will be rewarded on accuracy, fluency and pronounciation.
Level 1: سورة الفجر Surat al-Fajr #89
Level 2: سورة الحشر Surat al-Hashr #59
Level 3: 30th Juz’ (siparah) of the Qur’an
There is no age limit to participate in the memorization part.
2. Recitation from mashaf of Qur’an
Each participant will perfect their recitation of of the Qur’an prior to the competition date. On the day of the competition, the judge will ask the participant to read a specific verse while looking at a copy of the Quran. Each participant will read 5-10 verses. Points will be awarded on pronunciation, fluency and tune.
Level 1 (Tartil): Participants will prepare the first juz’ (siparah) of the Qur’an, of which they will be asked to recite a portion
Level 2 (Tartil): This recitation test will be based on the entire contents of the Quran. Participants will be asked randomly to read from anywhere in their copy of Quran.
*Copies of the Qur’an will be provided at the competition for the recitation component.
3. Artistic rendition
Each participant will prepare an artistic rendering of Surah Insaan in the medium of their choice. All art work will be presented before the audience on the day of the competition. Each participant will have a maximum of 5 minutes to explain their art and how it portrays سورة الانسان Surat al-Insan #76 in an art medium of their choice from the following list.
