CPHS provides:
Education and Policy
- trained community organizations on "How to Help the Uninsured"
- interviewed community-based organizations on how they receive and disseminate information.
- worked with CBO's in the Bronx to develop information about the access policies of health care providers in the borough.
- fought for information about New York City's hospital of federal dollars (CHCCDP)
. The CPHS report on this program resulted in a tightening of the requirements for the spending of these funds.
- work with a state-wide coalition of organizations, Medicaid Matters New York to advocate about the importance of Medicaid for low-income residents and the safety net providers located in medically underserved communities. Support for Community Organizations
- worked with the Central Brooklyn Health Crisis Coalition, coordinated by the Brooklyn Perinatal Network, to bring attention to the medical crisis in the community during a time of closing of healthcare services.
- working with a coalition of Southeast Queens community organizations to raise awareness of the impact of hospital closings in that medically underserved community.
- working with a coalition of Lower East Side/ Chinatown organizations that are supporting access to healthcare services for residents and clean-up workers impacted by 9/11. Organizing
- organizing a People's Budget Coalition for Public Health to fight for funding for public health services in the city's budget
- initiated and coordinated the Save our Safety Net- Campaign, which organized to ensure that the State Hospital Closing Commission incorporated in its recommendations the need for safety-net services, particularly in low-income, immigrant and communities of color.
- coordinated negotiations with the State Health Department to strengthen regulations implementing the Patient Financial Assistance Law (Manny's Law), which requires that all hospitals in the state provide Charity Care and publicize the availability of these services.
