Take home a piece of history with your own special-edition library card commemorating 250 years of the United States, now available at Morningside Heights library, while supplies last. The card features Thomas Jefferson’s handwritten copy of the Declaration of Independence, preserved in the Library’s collections. No fee to change your current card!

Happy Hunger Games! We volunteer as tribute to be your go-to stop for summer reads. Morningside Heights Library is participating in the Official Hunger Games Book Club and have made it one week in to # TheBalladOfSongbirdsAndSnakes
! While supplies last, pick up an official bookmark alongside your copy to borrow. Also, join us August 24th for a celebration of the series! Read The Hunger Games along with us today. See the synopsis below:

It is the morning of the reaping that will kick off the tenth annual Hunger Games. In the Capitol, eighteen-year-old Coriolanus Snow is preparing for his one shot at glory as a mentor in the Games. The once-mighty house of Snow has fallen on hard times, its fate hanging on the slender chance that Coriolanus will be able to outcharm, outwit, and outmaneuver his fellow students to mentor the winning tribute. The odds are against him. He’s been given the humiliating assignment of mentoring the female tribute from District 12, the lowest of the low. Their fates are now completely intertwined, every choice Coriolanus makes could lead to favor or failure, triumph or ruin. Inside the arena, it will be a fight to the death. Outside the arena, Coriolanus starts to feel for his doomed tribute, and must weigh his need to follow the rules against his desire to survive no matter what it takes.

Open Stage returns again this Saturday, July 25th and will continue on the 4th Saturday of every month. The event name signifies that no specific talent is required to show up and show off!
Here are some things to know for Saturday:1) The first hour is for sign-ups (1:30-2:30pm). 2) There is no set time limit and if time permits after your slot, you may perform again. 3) We have a professional JBL sound system where instruments can be connected to and also a TV for visual aide where a flashdrive can be inserted or a DVD if needed. 4) As all NYPL programs are Free, this one is no exception. No performers have to pay to be the entertainment at this event. Tag a creative and creator now!

During the heat wave, this family, new to the neighborhood, discovered Morningside Heights Library as a cooling center. They stopped by almost every day for a week and completed our puzzle between the three of them! Huge shoutouts and warm welcomes to Zhao, Maxwell and Bennett!

This year, the Library joins our nation in commemorating 250 years since the founding of the United States. As one of the world’s foremost institutions committed to democratic access to knowledge—and as the repository of some of the country’s most important founding documents—the Library is marking this milestone with special exhibitions, free programs and events for all ages, activities, educational offerings, a special anniversary book list, and more!
