Since its independence in 1974, Grenada became a Member of the United Nations (UN). The Tri Island State of Grenada Carriacou and Petit Martinique, has gained strong global presence, within the UN System; much bigger than its name. Grenada leads in areas such as climate change diplomacy, based on its commitment and active participation within United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (
UNFCCC.) Grenada is a leading member state on environmental issues, forestry, maritime, and science and technology. Grenada serves as Vice President of the 69th Session of the UN General Assembly, and actively engages in the standing committees and working groups of the United Nations System. On the global stage Grenada’s Prime Minister is a Co-chair the Global Island Partnership. The Names of Grenadian nationals are global house hold names in Bio-diversity issues and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea. Grenada is Vice President of the Climate Change Convention on Bio Diversity. The Mission is of the view that we must network our global authorities and draw upon them. The Mission seeks to network our nationals in academia, medicine, aerospace and other disciplines across the globe using modern technology to reach out to them; creating a pool of intellectuals and experts across disciplines that can further contribute to the work of the United Nations and capacity development in Grenada. Grenada’s Mission to the UN seeks to strategically advance Grenada’s expansion of its presence and visibility in new parts of the world by working through the multilateral process of the United Nation’s System. Realizing that information as a resource is of equal value as money, and in-kind contributions. The gathering and sharing information is a key function of the Mission. Grenada’s Mission to the United Nations will work to promote and pursue Grenada’s interest within the Community of nations in order to enhance its image and development- therefore the Mission will advance Grenada’s new vision for International Relations, and the ex*****on of the directives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
