DETECTIVE ROBERT A. MONTANEZ
Narcotics Division Bronx Central Initiative

Detective Robert A. Montanez joined the New York City Police Department in July 1984, and began his career on patrol in the 30 Precinct. He also served in the Narcotics Division Northern Manhattan Initiative, the Bronx South Narcotics Division, Narcotics Division Bronx South Initiative and the Narcotics Division Northern Manhattan Initiative. He was promoted to Detective in June 1998. Detective Montanez made more than 450 arrests during his 19-year career and was recognized four times for Excellent Police Duty, and once for Meritorious Police Duty. He retired on February 1, 2005. Detective Montanez died on March 16, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Nelida; and children: Anthony, Darlene, Erica and Jason Irizarry, a New York City police officer assigned to the 40 Precinct
