The Haitian American Lawyers Association of New York (HALANY) will celebrate its 10th anniversary at their Scholarship and Anniversary Gala on November 9, 2023. Since its creation, Hofstra Law alumni have made significant contributions through leadership positions.
Founding President and Hofstra Law alumnus Emmanuel Depas ’09 will be honored at this year’s Gala with the President’s Award. Depas’ involvement in HALANY has greatly helped to fill a crucial void in representation amongst minority bar associations. His guidance and leadership have played a vital role in shaping HALANY, while driving its mission to provide professional support, amplify voices, and increase the number of Haitian and minority attorneys in the legal field. Depas is the founder and managing attorney at the Law Office of Emmanuel Depas and Associates.
Currently, HALANY’s leadership team includes three Hofstra Law alumni; President Madjeen Garcon-Bonneau ’18, Aisha Prudent ’18, Secretary, Staff Attorney at the Children’s Law Center, and Sadie Hyppolite ’19, Vice President of Membership, Immigration Attorney at Northern Manhattan Improvement Corporation.
