Vote Anybody But Quinn for Most Valuable Campaign at RootsCamp 2013
In February, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn was the front-runner in the New York City Democratic primary for Mayor with close to 40% of the vote according to polls. Jessie and Jon, we raise a paw to you. One year ago tonight, our Horse Hero Jessie Streich-Kest, died at age 24 in Hurricane Sandy. She was NYCLASS' first ever political organizer. A month later, her father, legendary social justice advocate Jon Kest, passed away to cancer. They set the foundation for our campaign to elect a humane Mayor. We miss Jessie and Jon terribly, but we know that they would be so proud of what we have accomplished this year.

“Victory! Congratulations to all the New Yorkers who joined with us in helping to create a better vision for our City,” Arthur Cheliotes, President of CWA Local 1180, a Coalition Partner of NYCN4S, said. “Thank you to all of the New Yorkers who stood with us, who believed that we could live in a City that is more caring and compassionate than the City we live in today. We are proud that we were successful in bringing forward a message, which captured what New Yorkers truly have in their hearts. We stood up against the closing of hospitals, and New Yorkers heard our message. We voiced concerns about the future of democracy and the over-turning of term limits, and New Yorkers listened. We supported a message of working families and for those that are not always able to defend themselves, and New Yorkers supported us overwhelmingly. If you use your position to advance your own career rather than the interests of the constituents, New Yorkers will find you unworthy of elected office. Clearly, that was reflected in the voting booths today.”
