Mid-Town Hi-Rise. FDNY 8 Engine was first quartered here at 165 E 51 st. September of 1869. 2 Truck original quarters were at 126 E 50 st.

E8 and L2 were brought together in the double bays of the current Hi Rise September 6, 1961.

It is with deep regret the department announces the passing of active member, Captain Gregory John Schmidt, Engine Company 8, on Friday April 25, 2025. Capt. Schmidt served our great department for 22 year; he also served our city as a member of the NYPD for 5 years.

The following arrangements have been confirmed:
