Sixth Street Community Center

Paz has been teaching traditional Hatha Yoga class for nearly 25 years at 6th street. Starting tonight and every Wednesday from 7pm-9pm join him for this 2-hour class where poses are held for an extended time, focusing on utilizing breath for internal expansion, while emphasizing stillness and meditation. All classes are a suggestion donation of $10.

Some excited conversations happening today with our partners at the Mayor’s Office of Urban Agriculture , the and the team at talking food sovereignty, farm to school initiatives and urban farming. Excited to share the amazing projects on the horizon!

Some love from the amazing crew at this afternoon, who swung by to do some cleaning and light maintenance of the a Community Fridge. We are also always looking for volunteers to support so our neighbors can continue to access the fridge in a dignified way. Thanks One Love ❤️

As the Fall semester comes to a close, we'd like to share a few December highlights from our Teen Climate Justice Program

★ Our students attended the TA Youth Committee Holiday Social to connect with peers
★ Hosted .enviro.society for a meet-and-greet where we exchanged ideas for collaborating in the Spring
★ Joined 's Composting Walking Tour and learned about different composting methods used across three neighborhood community gardens
★ Welcomed a guest visit from Jeanne of and dicussed their Geothermal in Schools campaign
★ Visited the Swiss Institute library where they run their teen program
★ Represented SSCC at the NY Renews NYC Regional Meeting to discuss current priorities in climate and strategies for the upcoming year

Another successful food distribution event during the holiday season at Sixth Street Community Center. Thanks to everyone’s contributions and donations over the past few months.

We also had more food than usual and it was great that so may of you came out to support and volunteer. Support from local partners at and the PTA Also thanks to our Food Justice Coordinator for steering the ship today.

We want to give a special thanks to and the LES Food Alliance for helping us more than double the size of our food distribution this month.

We were able to feed local families hundreds of pounds of food including our usual fresh produce, but chicken, oats, pasta, rice beans and so much more. Thanks everyone ❤️🙏🏽
