CPC Adult Literacy Program x NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital 🀝

We partnered with NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital for a language-accessible workshop on navigating the emergency room, learning about patient rights, interpreter services, mental health support, and more.

Our students learn English to support their kids, navigate city services, find jobs, and become citizens. This workshop checked those boxes and will help improve lives in our immigrant community. πŸ™

CPC's Queens AAPI Heritage Month Benefit raised funds for programs that serve 20,000 Queens residents each year, from early childhood education and college readiness to senior care, adult literacy, and legal counseling.

We celebrated AAPI leadership, honored two community champions, and featured lion dances, jazz, Thai dance, and a powerful special needs dance performance.

Congratulations again to our honorees:
πŸŽ–οΈ Community Service Award: Leona Chin
πŸŽ–οΈ Heritage Award: Jay Lau, Esq.

Thank you to CM Linda Lee, CM Sandra Ung, and CM Phil Wong; Judges Evelyn Gong, Cassandra A. Johnson, and Karen Lin; and representatives from the offices of Attorney General Letitia James, AM Catalina Cruz, and AM Larinda Hooks, NYC Comptroller Mark Levine, Speaker Carl E. Heastie, CM Nantasha Williams, the NYS Office for People with Developmental Disabilities, and the NYC Civic Engagement Commission for celebrating with us. πŸ’™

Ifsa Fareed, a participant in CPC’s Learn and Earn program and a new member of our Youth Policy Team, shares how CPC helped her find her voice through mentorship, peer learning, and supportive spaces where her perspective was heard and valued.

What began as hesitation turned into confidenceβ€”and a deeper understanding of what advocacy truly means.

Her experience reflects the impact of CPC’s youth programs: creating space for young people to grow into informed, empowered leaders who can drive change in their communities.

Donate to CPC’s Give in May campaign to help more students like Ifsa gain the tools, support, and confidence to lead.

Older adults make up 20% of the population, yet receive only 1% of the city budget. This week, over 35 older adults from CPC Brooklyn Older Adult Center joined LiveOn NY’s Age Strong Campaign to demand greater investment in older adults and aging services.

We are calling for:
βœ… Critical repairs and improvements for Older Adult Centers
βœ… More affordable housing for seniors
βœ… Expansion of the SCRIE (Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption) program
βœ… Increased funding rates for Congregate Meals programs
