Congratulations to Jumaane and his team! This was a tough decision for progressive voters with so many strong candidates running. DFNYC members were supporting different candidates. Jumaane Williams is a progressive and an activist and I believe he will speak for the ones who need him most.

Call your State Senator and demand they vote for The Bail Reform Act (A10137A) Today, per the article, 67% of people in NY jails are being held before they have even had trials, because they can't afford cash bail., The bail system allows persons with money to buy their freedom while keeping the poor and the indigent locked up. This bill eliminates cash bail for all non-violent felonies and all misdemeanors. This has passed the Assembly, and Cuomo would sign it, but it is held up in the Senate by the GOP. Call your Senator!
Why New York should eliminate cash bail for smaller crimes
At the United States’ founding, we were told that all men are created equal, but chattel slavery thrived. During the Jim Crow era, Southern states separated people by race, treating African-Americans as second-class citizens.

Heads up! Our friends at Sane Energy Project are reminding people that the legislature is still in session, and important bills are up for a vote. Such as Assembly bill A10474, which would protect and keep the use of solar energy affordable in the state. http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?default_fld=&leg_video=&bn=A10474&term=2017&Summary=Y&Text=Y
All hands on deck!
Don’t let VDER kill community solar in New York – CALL the State Assembly Energy Committee TODAY and tell them to support the VDER Moratorium bill A.10474
The current Value of Distributed Energy Resources (VDER) policy is stifling the growth of community solar and only benefiting big utilities. This bill would restore net metering, allowing for residents and business who can’t put solar on their roofs to benefit from renewable energy.

A 19 year old can't buy a beer, or a handgun You have to be 21. But CAN legally buy an AR-15 Assault Rifle. The shooter in Florida bought his legally at the age of 18, even though he had been expelled from school for disciplinary reasons. There is no reason why it should be *easier* to buy more powerful, deadlier, weapon. The law needs to change!
Why It’s Legal for a Teen to Buy an Assault Rifle but Not a Handgun
Outdated laws make AR-15’s more readily available than handguns for teens.
