As of Friday almost 39 percent of residents in the 11691 ZIP code have had at least one dose and 34.22 percent are fully vaccinated. Citywide, those numbers are 60.7 percent and 55.4 percent, respectively, according to health department data.
“The lack of information is why people miss out on things, because they are not doing the proper outreach in order to inform folks that this is out here,” said Jazmine Outlaw, executive director of the Rockaway Youth Task Force.
The fight to vaccinate one of the city's hardest hit neighborhoods The eastern edge of the Rockaway Peninsula in Southeast Queens has the lowest vaccination rate in the city.

This month’s member spotlight goes to Madison. She is a sophomore who attends New Visions High School for the Humanities. Madison is passionate about food justice and giving back to her community!
When asked what she enjoys most about RYTF she says. “Being able to give back to the community, while also learning how to grow my own food. I also enjoy meeting new people. It’s been fun to hangout with people my age who are also interested in giving back”

In just little over a year we have transformed an underutilized lot, into a beautiful urban farm. The Rockaway Roots Urban Farm provides food to our neighbors and employment opportunities for our youth. This is . This is the power of young people in action.
Beginning Thursday August 5th, we will be partnering with GrowNYC to offer a no cost farm stand. Be on the look out for more details!
