📚 A memorable day of reading and creativity at Gun Hill Houses in the Bronx.

Award-winning author Williams-Garcia joined young readers and families through the National Book Foundation's Book Rich Environments program—sharing her story, answering questions, and bringing Clayton Byrd Goes Underground to life.

Each child received a free signed copy of the book, turning the experience into a lasting connection to reading.

“I can’t remember when I’ve had so much fun during an author visit,” Ms. Williams-Garcia said. “It was a fabulous community book-rich event, made for children of all ages. I felt so at home with all of the staff and those wonderful kids with those thoughtful questions.”

The event welcomed participants from Gun Hill, Boston Secor, and Eastchester, with hands-on activities like bookmark and comic strip making.

📖 Through this initiative, NYCHA will receive 50,000 free books this year—expanding access to literacy for children and teens across our communities.

🎨 Honoring history at NYCHA’s Kingsborough Houses

A restored historic frieze has received a 2026 Municipal Art Society MASterworks Design Award for Best Public Art Restoration.

“Exodus and Dance,” an 80+ year-old work by Harlem Renaissance artist Richmond Barthé, has been brought back to life through years of advocacy, collaboration, and community engagement.

The restoration preserves a powerful story of migration, liberation, and cultural expression—while reflecting the voices and pride of who helped shape the project.

👏 Congratulations to all who made this preservation effort possible.
