This Thursday, August 15th, the TJ Club will be open at 7pm to help Alan Maisel's campaign. We need you to help us get out a mailing of between 5,000 and 10,000 pieces. The task will consist mainly of stuffing envelopes. So bring friends and family. All are welcome. With about a month before the primary, your help is greatly needed and appreciated. Thank you.

The TJ Club will be open Monday, January 21st at 12PM for our Presidential Inauguration party. Come join us as we watch the Presidential Inauguration live on cable on our big screen TV. Food and refreshments will be served.

The Thomas Jefferson Young Dems is continuing our holiday tradition of bringing Christmas to the elderly. This time of year can be a very lonely time for many senior citizens, many of whom will be spending Christmas without friends or family. Sometimes all it takes to bring joy to a person's life is to spend a little time with them and show them that you care. On December 25th at 8 AM we will be meeting at Frank Seddio's Office, 9306 Flatlands Avenue, to bring Christmas meals to housebound senior citizens in Bushwich, Brooklyn. We need 40 volunteers to help us carry out this "Meals On Wheels" mission. We will not require too much of your time and we should be done by noon. If you are interested in joining us, please call Mitchell at (718) 877-5427. We need to know by Thursday if you will help us Christmas day.

Tomorrow, the Dream Factory of Brooklyn will host a fundraiser kickoff from 1-7pm at the LoneStarBar & Grill on 8703 5th Avenue in Brooklyn. There are drink specials for those attending. Donations are welcome.

If nothing is done and we go over the fiscal cliff, sequestration kicks in – automatic spending cuts that resulted from Congress’s failure to reach a deficit reduction deal last year. Sequestration calls for $1.2 trillion in cuts evenly split between defense and nondefense spending over the next decade. But $109 billion of that will hit in fiscal year 2013, gouging a $55 billion hole in the nondefense side. That will amount to an 8.2 percent reduction in nondefense discretionary spending.

Poor Women and Children Faced With Fiscal Threat Cuts to nondiscretionary public spending, whether bargained for or automatic, will disproportionately affect women and children living in poverty.

The House speaker, John A. Boehner of Ohio, striking a conciliatory tone a day after the Republican Party’s electoral drubbing, said on Wednesday that he was ready to accept a budget deal that raises federal revenue as long as it is linked to an overhaul of entitlements and a reform of the tax code that closes loopholes, curtails or eliminates deductions and lowers income tax rates.

Back to Bargaining Table, With Fiscal Cliff Dead Ahead President Obama enters the next fray with heightened leverage, both sides agree, but Republican leaders have restated their opposition to raising taxes to reduce deficits.

Obama and Romney Zero In on Battleground States President Obama sought to shore up his standing in Midwestern states, including Iowa and Wisconsin, while Mitt Romney fought to secure critical states like Florida and Virginia.
