Trapped. Outnumbered. Escaped. 🛶✨️🇺🇸

Our :NYC series continues! Today, we trace the steps of one of the most miraculous military escapes in history.

In late August 1776, British forces landed on Long Island and began . After fierce clashes at Battle Pass and the heroic stand of the Maryland 400, General George Washington’s army was forced back to Brooklyn Heights. Pinned against the East River with little ammunition and a massive British fleet blocking any daylight escape, the Continental Army faced total destruction.

With no other options, Washington ordered a daring, highly secretive nighttime evacuation. While Brigadier General Thomas Mifflin’s Pennsylvania brigade stayed behind to tend campfires and trick the British, the rest of the army slipped away in the dark. Despite an initial struggle against harsh winds and swift currents, the weather miraculously calmed.

By August 29, Washington personally oversaw the successful ferrying of his entire force across the river without losing a single life (all ~9,000 troops crossed unharmed)—saving the Continental Army to fight another day.

A special thank you to CPT Jessica Munoz, company commander, U.S. Army Brooklyn North Recruiting Company, for walking with us through Fort Greene and Dumbo today!

Tag along and learn as we visit:

●Fort Greene Park and the site of historic Fort Putnam

●The Prison Ship Martyrs' Monument to honor the 11,500+ Patriots who died in captivity during the Revolutionary War

●Fulton Ferry Terminal in Dumbo, known then as "Brookland Ferry"— the exact spot where Washington's army made their miraculous escape.

Stay locked in as we continue to cover during our celebration of Freedom250:NYC! The Battle of Brooklyn may now be over...but the battle for Manhattan, and America as we know it - has only JUST begun!

Motivation Monday is here! We want to know…was there another showdown 🧹 in NYC !?! 😍 Just kidding! It’s all in fun for a good cause as NYPD Finest Football vs. FDNY Bravest Football brought on the 🔥 at The 53rd Annual City Fun Bowl, a football competition held at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, Long Island on Saturday.

Our very own U.S. Army NYC Recruiting Battalion commander, Lt. Col. Oliver Karp was the NYPD Finest Football honorary captain, with the honor of calling the coin toss ahead of the highly anticipated game! As a former Brooklyn Tech HS Quarterback, 🏈 Karp knew exactly what to do! The mighty Empire Battalions’ Nassau and Suffolk Recruiting Company along with the Crown Heights Recruiting Station was also on hand with interactive activities to support our community partners! Of course our rockstar Recruiters were ready to chat about Reserve part-time opportunities, and enthusiasticly thanked current and Alumni NYC first responders for all that they do!

The day commenced with a poignant ceremony paying tribute to the lives of the fallen, acknowledging their selfless dedication to the league's mission and charitable objectives. Families of the honored individuals received tokens of appreciation, symbolizing gratitude for their loved ones' contributions. The opening ceremony featured a joint color guard presentation, performances by the NYPD Band and the FDNY Emerald Society Pipes and Drugs, and a flyover by the Nassau PD, showcasing unity and respect.

As both the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) are U.S. Army Partnership For Your Success (PaYs) partners, we played it cool 😎throughout the game... until the final score was 14-0! 😂 Now the NYPD Finest are heading to the National Public Safety Football League (NPSFL) Championship, Friday, June 19th on the west coast.

It’s a good thing the Athletes hugged it out before the game! 😂 Seriously - Bravo to our PaYs partners - New York’s Finest and New York’s Bravest for what they do on and off the field as first responders! One Team No Seam!

Great job to all who took part in the 53rd Annual City Fun Bowl!!👏
Congratulations to the NYPD, its Coach Clive Harding and his teammates! (Coach Harding is also the Football Coach for Boys and Girls High School, where he serves as an educator and mentor)

The Mighty Empire Battalion Team was honored to support the day!

Hmmm…Is the Championship game also going to be a match up of who has the best pizza!?! 🍕🗽😍😜😇🇺🇸

Outnumbered. Outgunned. Unbroken. 🗽

We are back with the next video in our series! Today, our coverage of takes us to the historic Old Stone House in Park Slope.

On August 27, 1776, this site was the epicenter of a desperate and heroic struggle. Faced with a massive British advance, roughly 400 Maryland soldiers—led by the infamous William Alexander, a.k.a Lord Sterling—made a dramatic last stand. They launched repeated, fierce attacks against a much larger force, deliberately putting themselves in harm's way. Their incredible sacrifice delayed the enemy just long enough to allow General George Washington's army to escape. Though many of these brave soldiers were killed, their actions that day preserved the Continental Army and ensured the future of the American Revolution.

A special thank you to Kim Maier, Executive Director of the Old Stone House, for hosting and educating our team. We also want to send our appreciation to our special guest from M.S. 51 William Alexander Middle School for tagging along on this incredible visit!

Stay locked in with as us we dive into General Washington's miraculous retreat to Manhattan next as we continue to cover . 🇺🇸
