This landmarked gateway in Chinatown has just been restored.

Named for WWII hero Second Lt. Benjamin Kimlau, the memorial arch honors Chinese American wartime casualties. It was commissioned by the local American Legion Post in 1962. The granite arch designed by modernist architect Poy Gum Lee, was taken apart, repaired, and reassembled for greater structural security--ensuring its legacy as a community icon and gathering place.
