Beginning in 1985 some very creative members of The Center Dance Committee that included Gary Langley, Barry Mushrush, and the late Richard Olson designed and built series of elaborate floats to represent The Le***an, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center for the annual Gay Pride Parade. Heritage of Pride acknowledged their effort with the “Most Outstanding Float” award. Happy Holidays Everyone! Who can add memories or photos about this Dance Committee tradition from long ago?
In December The Dance Committee produced the Winter Social a free community event for the holidays. There was entertainment thanks to our producer Rich Aronstein, which included performers like David Drake, Mike Ross, Reno, Jaffe Cohen, Bob Smith, and Lypsinka.
In 1988 it featured a Tree of Life made of poinsettias that where dedicated to friends and loved ones lost to AIDS. In 1989 there were brass ornaments with names. In 1990 it featured a “Tree” formed of teddy bears with memorial name tags. in 1991 plexiglass ornaments with engraved names. In 1992 during Winter Social panels with multiple embroidered names to be added to the Names Project quilt were presented.

When I was learning desktop publishing and graphic design in the early 90s, I learned a lot from doing simple flyers for The Center Dance Committee Volunteers and it helped me put together a portfolio that got me freelance jobs and eventually full-time work in what would become a new second career.
