The NYC Lab School offers a unique program - College Advisory and Post-Secondary Planning – and it is funded by the PA – which is to say – YOU!
Many families often hire a professional college advisor. Lab families don’t need to as we have Ms. Madenberg, a certified School (Guidance) Counselor with a background in College Advising. She provides one-on-one support to our Labbies (and their families) as they plan for their post-secondary experience – whether or not those plans include college. Ms.Madenberg gets to know your student(s) in their comfortable school environment from when they enter as freshman to when they graduate as seniors. This opportunity enables your child to develop a trusting relationship with her as she mentors and works with them.
Ms. Madenberg provides valuable resources and advice about the college process, the timeline, standard test prep and financial aid as students and parents navigate the college process. She assists your child on all their essays, offering constructive feedback and advice from her years of professional experience. She also arranges tours of college campuses so that our children can experience what a day in college may be like. From scheduling college representative visits (that are held in Lab so that our that our students have dedicated time to learn and ask questions in a comfortable setting) to keeping everyone connected through announcements and meetings with the parents and students, Ms. Madenberg is top of her game!
To help students prepare for post-secondary experiences that do not involve college, Ms. Madenberg also provides information and guidance on gap years, employment and internship opportunities, trade school to learn a skill, non-matriculation study and travel. She is truly dedicated to our Labbies and their success.
IT TAKES YOU, our Lab community, to ensure that our children have the means and opportunity to college and post-secondary guidance counselling. It is why funding is so critically important. For those of you approaching the college and post-secondary processes, and for those of you who have recently had the incredible experience this past year, please consider making a donation. No amount is too small. Please consider a $25 donation, or any amount you are comfortable giving.
