Our aim is to to introduce Taiwan's arts and culture to a broader audience throughout North America.

The Taipei Cultural Center in New York (TCC), which was established as the first overseas office of Taiwan's Ministry of Culture in 1991, builds connections through arts and culture in New York and throughout North America. Each year, we reach out to art museums, theaters, performing arts centers, film cinemas, festivals, curators, and presenters in the US and Canada.

A Symphony of Island and Literature: 2026 Workshop for Translating Taiwan Literature
Calling all emerging translators —Apply Now!

Following the success of the 2025 Workshop for Translating Taiwan Literature in Taiwan, (National Museum of Taiwan Literature) and (British Centre for Literary Translation) have partnered once again for “ : 2026 Workshop for Translating Taiwan Literature” as one of the major events in this year’s Taiwan Writers Festival. The in-person workshop will be mentored by the internationally acclaimed translator, Jeremy Tiang, and senior editor, Dennis Zhou, joined by Taiwanese writers, experienced literary translators, scholars, and publishing industry representatives from Finland, Japan, Korea, the United Kingdom, and other countries.

We are convinced that nurturing and supporting translators demands long-term investment and commitment, so we’re running another workshop in 2026. We aim to create a steady, immersive environment for translators to gain experience and grow together through open dialogue and hands-on literary translation practice. Our goal is to help translators find their unique voice and develop their ability to interpret culture across languages.

We cordially invite translators with a passion for literary translation to take part in this grand literary event!

this week
TAIWAN all over the WALLS🔥🔥🔥

Six Taiwanese artists —
COLASA, Mr. OGAY, VASTAR, ALLO, Candy Kuo, and Black Zao, are leaving their traces on the streets of the Bushwick Collective.

Cans of spray paint.🎨
Scissor lifts parked against the walls.
Shoulders held up for hours.💪🦾
Fingers covered in color.🤟

These artists are putting their work on the walls of Brooklyn, leaving something that belongs to this summer.🔥🔥🔥

⚡️COLASA
Uses graffiti to challenge the boundaries of traditional art,
throwing the colors inside him directly into the city.

⚡️Mr. OGAY
Responds to social absurdity through bare-figured characters and dark humor, using "ugly" to reopen a conversation about what's real.

⚡️VASTAR
Combines old American comic style with salvaged materials, building something heavy and dimensional on the street.

⚡️ALLO
Paints female portraits with clean, decisive spray-paint lines, youth, city feeling, and emotion all left on the wall together.

⚡️Candy Kuo
Depicts the relationships between nature, women, and environment in careful realism, drawing from both East Asian aesthetics and an American Southwest upbringing.

⚡️Black Zao
weaves calligraphy, natural imagery, and the gold-neon tones of Taiwanese glove puppetry into graffiti, forming a visual language that's unmistakably his.

On May 28,
they'll join Brooklyn Street Art's Jaime Rojo and artist Steven Harrington for a conversation at Lot 45.

Bushwick

Mr. OGAY、COLASA、VASTAR、ALLO、Candy Kuo、Black Zao,

COLASA

Mr. OGAY

VASTAR

ALLO

Candy Kuo

Black Zao

Roll 02 — Lisa Cheng Yun Hai Taiwanese Pantry

"If you want to do something in New York, you can get it done."

Over a decade in New York.
An entrepreneur. A mother.

A Taiwanese grocery store.
The 7:15 AM school drop-off.
Phone calls that never seem to end.
Shipments that are always running late.

In between all of it, Lisa has been quietly bringing Taiwan into New York —
one small thing at a time.

New York is a community.
Survival here isn't easy, so people look out for each other.

What she misses most about Taiwan is the street culture, that feeling of people just living, everywhere, all the time.

So now she does it through food,
through craft,
through a lunar calendar she made with a friend (the kind that used to hang in Taiwanese homes, restaurants, and shops).

Small things.
Everyday things.
Her way of saying Taiwan is here.

This is Lisa's New York —
where Taiwan slowly becomes part of Manhattan's everyday life.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Five Taiwanese artists have arrived at the Bushwick Collective.
The murals are going up.

On May 28, they'll talk about the work at Lot 45.
Come see what they're making!!

🗓 Artist Talk: May 28 | Lot 45

Bushwick Collective,

This summer, Taiwan is showing up on the walls of New York.

Taiwanese graffiti artists are bringing large-scale murals to the streets of NYC.
Bold colors, new stories, right in the middle of everyday city life.

Walls become meeting points. Neighborhoods become part of the work.
And for a moment, people from completely different places end up standing in front of the same thing.

Some art lives in theaters. Some in concert halls. This kind stays on the street.

From Formosa began in Los Angeles, traveled through Phoenix, and has now arrived in New York.

Along the way, the voices of Taiwu Ballads Troupe introduced many audiences to Paiwan Indigenous singing from Taiwan for the very first time.

From a sold-out performance in Los Angeles,
to a night in Phoenix where Taiwanese and Native American musical traditions shared the same stage.

Now, From Formosa brings Paiwan chants, Hakka-inspired melodies, and chamber music into Manhattan.

“Music is how we tell the world who we are.” — Taiwan Philharmonic

Some melodies stay with you long after hearing them once.

This summer, the sounds of FORMOSA arrive in New York.
Tomorrow night, one final chance to experience it live.

《From Formosa》

《 From Formosa》
