Every great organization starts with a simple act.

In 1985, during the AIDS crisis, hospice worker Ganga Stone was asked to bring groceries to a man dying at home. When she returned the next day, she found the groceries exactly where she had left them.

Realizing he was too sick to prepare food himself, she brought him a hot meal instead.

That moment became the foundation of God’s Love We Deliver, which has spent the last 40 years providing medically tailored meals, compassion, and dignity to New Yorkers facing serious illness.

In this episode of Hospitality & Politics, President & CEO Terrence Meck shares the remarkable story of how one act of kindness grew into a movement.

🪩 A major win for New York City hospitality, nightlife, and cultural expression!

The New York State Liquor Authority has eliminated the longstanding requirement that liquor license applicants disclose whether patron dancing will be permitted at their establishment.

This long-overdue reform builds on years of advocacy to remove outdated restrictions on social dancing and create a more modern regulatory framework for restaurants, bars, and nightlife venues.

We're proud to have worked alongside industry advocates to help make this change a reality.

💃 Today marks a major milestone for New York nightlife and hospitality.

The New York State Liquor Authority approved a new policy eliminating the longstanding requirement that liquor license applicants disclose whether patron dancing will be permitted at their establishment.

This long-overdue reform builds on years of advocacy to dismantle outdated restrictions tied to the discriminatory legacy of the cabaret laws and unnecessary government oversight of social dancing.

New Yorkers and visitors from around the world gather to celebrate, connect, dance, and experience the energy of our city’s hospitality and nightlife culture. This change helps modernize the regulatory framework and gives businesses greater confidence to create those experiences without unnecessary regulatory uncertainty.

We commend Governor Hochul, SLA Chair Lily Fan, and the Members of the Authority for taking this important step forward.

“New Yorkers are kind, not nice.”

One of the most meaningful moments from our conversation with Dr. Kira O’Brien of Emma's Torch was hearing about the hope, resilience, and community she sees every day working with refugees, asylum seekers, and survivors rebuilding their lives in New York City.

Hospitality has always been about more than food – it’s about people, belonging, and creating spaces where everyone feels welcome.
