In 1925, a conference in Geneva declared June 1 to be the International Day for the Protection of Children. 54 countries across the world currently celebrate today as Children’s Day. Although the United States declares the second Sunday in June to be Children’s Day, let today be a reminder of not only the difficulties children face around the world, but of the hope we see in their faces every day as well.

June is . We must always look after the well-being and safety of our children. However, in budget talks, Mayor De Blasio and the City Government have considered cutting summer programming for 31,000 children. Follow this link to tell Mayor de Blasio, Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, City Council Finance Chair Julissa Ferreras, City Council Youth Services Chair Eugene, and your own City Council Member that summer programming IS A PRIORITY and must be restored for 31,000 children. The city must provide a safe and enriching environment for our children!
