📘UNWLA President , whose essay is included in the newly published volume Women in Official and Public Diplomacy, participated virtually in two major Ukrainian events dedicated to women in diplomacy: the presentation of the book Women in Official and Public Diplomacy at Lviv Polytechnic’s International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations and the public forum The Big Conversation on Women in Diplomacy at the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine.

📘In her remarks, Pawlenko reflected on the role of the Ukrainian diaspora, women’s leadership, and the century-long contribution of the Ukrainian National Women's League of America in strengthening Ukraine’s voice in the USA and building international support for Ukraine. She also expressed gratitude for the recognition of UNWLA’s longstanding role in public diplomacy and advocacy.

House passed the Ukraine Support Act, H.R. 2913, yesterday by a vote of 226–195. This critically important legislation will now move to the Senate.

Yesterday’s result would not have been possible without strong support from within Congress, the overwhelming majority of Americans who continue to stand with Ukraine, and the tireless advocacy of UNWLA members, the broader Ukrainian American community, and Ukraine’s allies who contacted their elected officials in support of this legislation.

Let us continue standing together for Ukraine, for the United States, and for the democratic values we all share.

The U.S. House of Representatives has approved the Ukraine Support Act, a bipartisan measure reaffirming continued American support for Ukraine.

The bill includes ongoing security assistance, up to $8 billion in potential loans for Ukraine and NATO allies, and tougher sanctions targeting russia’s financial institutions, energy sector, shadow fleet, and other sources funding the war.

Today’s vote demonstrates that bipartisan support for Ukraine remains strong in Congress. The legislation now moves to the Senate.

Critical days ahead for Ukraine support in Congress.

Debate on the Ukraine Support Act (H.R. 2913) is scheduled for Wednesday, with a final House vote expected Thursday if key procedural votes pass.

Several procedural votes must succeed before the bill can advance — and there are active efforts underway to block them.

We urge everyone who supports Ukraine to call their House Representatives today, tomorrow, Wednesday, and Thursday. Even a short, polite voicemail can make a difference.

“As your constituent, I urge you to support the passage of H.R. 2913, the Ukraine Support Act.”

Use the action tool created by the American Coalition for Ukraine to contact your Representatives - link is in the first comment.

Every call matters. 🇺🇦

Our next book club is coming up next Saturday!

We'll be discussing FORGOTTENNESS by Tanja Maljartschuk – a powerful exploration of memory, identity, and Ukraine's forgotten histories.

Through the intertwined stories of a contemporary Ukrainian writer and a 19th-century naturalist, Maljartschuk weaves a meditation on what it means to be remembered and what it costs to be erased.

For over a century, imperial russian narratives worked to suppress, absorb, or erase Ukraine's distinct cultural identity. Every May, for Ukraine Decolonization Month, UNWLA focuses on work that we all collectively can do to reclaim it. This month, we place a deliberate spotlight on Ukrainian literature – the authentic Ukrainian voices that russian imperialism has been trying to silence for centuries. Ukraine's literary and cultural tradition is ancient, distinct, and alive — and it must be seen on its own terms. Flip the slides to learn about the panel discussion we've held together with Craft Chapter Ukraine and Academic Studies Press, and the tools that we collectively developed to help local communities continue decolonization and popularization of Ukrainian classical and modern literature.

🚨 Russian escalation of attacks on Ukrainian civilians.

Overnight on May 23-24, russia launched one of the largest combined aerial assaults of the war, involving 690 drones and missiles targeting residential neighborhoods and civilian infrastructure across Ukraine.

In Kyiv alone:
• 78 people were reported injured and 2 killed. The total number of injuries across the country is closer to 100.
• More than 247 individuals required psychological assistance after the attack
• Over 30 residential buildings were damaged
Search and rescue operations are ongoing as new russian attacks continue.

The destruction extended far beyond homes. At least 13 historical and cultural sites in Kyiv were damaged or destroyed.

A massive warehouse fire covering 10,000 square meters burned in Kyiv region following the strike.

Among the most devastating scenes was the destruction of the Kvadrat shopping center and the surrounding area. The attack completely destroyed the shopping center and a historic marketplace, damaging an adjacent subway station that had long served as a shelter for civilians during russian attacks.

Ukrainians continue to endure relentless terror aimed not only at their lives, but at culture, memory, and identity itself.

🚨Please continue advocating for Ukraine:
• Contact your elected officials and demand stronger sanctions on russia and continued support for Ukraine
• Support humanitarian and medical aid for Ukrainian communities affected by these attacks
