The New York City Council announced that in order to recognize the service of U.S. veterans, and as a way to recruit talent into City government, the City would soon offer military veterans a waiver of the fee required to take a civil service test. The veteran’s exam fee waiver will be available for civil service examinations that first open for filing in March of 2012. Applicants can request a waiver at the time of submitting an exam application either online or by mail, and then mail in documentation supporting their request at a later date. The DCAS Application Centers are located at 210 Joralemon St. in Brooklyn and 2 Lafayette St. in lower Manhattan, two blocks north of City Hall Park. Exam fees normally go from $60 to $80. So free is a good deal. Please go to the link to view civil service job openings, veteran's credits, and exam filing dates.

Here are the toys shortly before they were picked up this morning. About 300 in all. That's about 300 smiling children. And great toys too. Skate boards and remote control cars and helicopters, all different variations of Barbie, etc. Thanks again everybody. Now we're moving on to the next project.

I would like to take this time to recognize the Chian Federation on 44th Street and Broadway in Astoria, for their generous donation of 76 toys and childrens games to the Major James A. McKenna American Legion Post's Toys for Tots drive. I believe that it was their Ladies Auxilliary that took up the collection. Toys for Tots is run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. All toys will be picked up by the Marines before Christmas. Extremely generous. Thank you.
