Opioids: Clinical Impact on Communities of Color
Steadily increasing opioid overdose death rates, especially in Hispanic (137%), African-American (213%), and American Indian (236%) communities, establish the urgency of the opioid epidemic as a public health crisis. Research has demonstrated that Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), especially if offered in combination with evidence-based behavioral interventions for substance use disorders (e.g., Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Recovery Support Services, etc.), is the most effective approach to treat opioid use disorders (OUD). This interactive training will review how these interventions work to address alcohol and opioid use disorders, to achieve benefits such as decreased overdoses and overdose deaths, increased social functioning and treatment retention, and enhanced pathways to sustainable recovery.
Goal: Participants will increase their knowledge of MAT and other evidence-based practices for OUDs, and how these interventions increase opportunity for recovery for those with OUD.
When: Tuesday, April 3, 2018 @ 9am
Where: NYU Kimmel Center, Room 802
Cost: $60 Registration for attendance and 3 CE Credits
