Thank you to the 20+ parents who donated to the teachers’ Valentine’s Day Breakfast! All of the teachers’ hearts were filled with an overwhelming sense of love and completeness that should carry them through until next Valentine’s Day.

Who likes popcorn? Who likes PS/MS 278?
The answer is YOU! Not only are the flavors they offer delicious, the names they came up with for them are witty and clever. And thankfully, they seem to have dropped that weird fruity flavor they used to offer. All the popcorn was green and purple and red and orange and just unnatural and unappealing. Yes, that’s judgmental and no, I don’t care that it is.
These make good gifts too. So whatever you’re celebrating this holiday season, make it even more special by giving the gift of delicious popcorn!

On behalf of the Wellness committee and PTA we would like to introduce a new fundraiser this year, the Gratitude Gram. This is a special note that can be purchased and sent to anyone in the school. A cute bracelet will be included to show that special someone your token of gratitude and thankfulness. One Gram is $1 or the ENTIRE sheet of 6 for $5.
The sheet was sent home with your child today. Extra copies can be found in the main office. Students can turn in the Grams/cash all week to their teacher or in the main office. They will be hand delivered the following week.
Thank you!

Let’s hear it for Sally from Friends of Inwood Hill Park, the Good Shepherd Butterfly Sanctuary, and the man whose dedication to neighborhood cleanliness knows NO BOUNDS, Dave Thom, as well as all the volunteers who showed up to do some serious gardening around the school! HIP HIP HURRAY!
The got bulbs planted, weeds whacked, worms saved, and garbage disposed of properly. What a team! We appreciate you!
The wonderful Sally, from Friends of Inwood Hill Park, has volunteered to lead a group of 278 community members in a gardening and trash pick up event this Sunday from 10:30 a.m. — 12:30 p.m.
And better yet, she will provide shovels, gloves, bulbs, garbage bags, and those really fun to use garbage grabbers.
Also, if anyone is an expert with a weed-whacker, we are trying to borrow one for the event. Those weeds are in desperate need of a thorough whacking and we could use your deft whacking skills.

This Wednesday, November 10th, eligible students aged 5-11 can get vaccinated at school. Vaccinations will be available from 7:00 a.m. — 11:00 a.m. and no appointments are necessary. Here is some additional, very important, information:
• Only students ages 5-11 are eligible and they must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, or by an adult designated by the parent/guardian, while receiving their vaccine. All visitors entering the building will need to be masked and complete the daily health screening: healthscreening.schools.nyc/.
• Update: If the student is accompanied by an adult who is not the parent or guardian, there is now a consent form that the parent/guardian should complete and send with the adult designee. The consent form is available here: www.schools.nyc.gov/school-life/health-and-wellness/covid-information/school-vaccine-sites.
• If your child is already in class when you arrive at the building, school staff will make arrangements to have your child meet you in the vaccination site.
• You will not need to provide proof of immigration status or a social security number to get vaccinated.
• You do not need health insurance to get vaccinated—the vaccine is free.
• All records and information associated with vaccination are kept strictly confidential.
• Vaccines are administered by trained medical professionals.
• On-site telephone interpretation in multiple languages will be available.
• You are encouraged to record your student’s vaccination status in the DOE’s COVID-19 Vaccination Portal: vaccine.schools.nyc/.
• By getting your child vaccinated, you are protecting them, your family and community from COVID-19 illness. Vaccinations help move our city forward, restore in-person gathering, and improve quality of life. If you, your student age 12 and up, or someone else you know is still in need of a vaccine, you can visit vaccinefinder.nyc.gov to choose from sites across the city offering appointments or walk-up vaccines at no cost.
• While strongly recommended, vaccinations are not currently mandatory for most students. You can learn more about vaccine requirements in schools by visiting schools.nyc.gov/covid19.
• If you have any questions about the COVID-19 vaccine, visit nyc.gov/covidvaccine for all the facts.
