Today is National Black Bear Day, and we are celebrating - !

Distinctive with a yellowish-white V in the neck area, the Formosan black bear is one of the seven subspecies of Ursus thibetanus formosanus endemic to Taiwan and is considered an endangered wild animal. It is often used as a symbol to represent Taiwan, such as the TECONY Taiwanese Black Bear in this photo!

A Formosan black bear has a stout body, a round head, a short neck, small eyes, a long mouth, round hips, and a short tail. Its body is covered with rough but shiny black hair. The Formosan black bear is omnivorous and does not hibernate; it is more active during summer and autumn. To learn more about this Taiwanese bear, head to the comments section!

Today is , celebrating the invention of hot air balloons, as it is the first achieved flight with humans in it. Taiwanese Founder Series in New York 🇹🇼🥟
A-Pou’s Taste

Meet Doris, also known as A-Pou (阿婆), a Taiwanese grandma in Brooklyn and a local favorite.

She used to work in fashion, but later made a big life change and started over with food. From street vending to food trucks, she slowly built something bigger than just a restaurant, with a simple goal — to bring Taiwanese flavours to New York.

Today, her place is known not only for Taiwanese food, but also for her warmth, kindness, and that natural Taiwanese hospitality that makes people feel at home. The space even feels like a little art gallery, with walls filled with artwork from her customers.

Pop in to say hi to A-Pou next time you’re in Brooklyn!

Today marks the 37th anniversary of the , also known as the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests and massacre, when a peaceful protest that took place around Beijing’s Tiananmen Square on June 4 1989 – and in cities across China- became a bloodshed crackdown as the Chinese government utilized force to silence the protest. While the Chinese government continuously alters history to this day, we shall not forget those who courageously risk their lives and safety just to have a voice. On this day, we are especially reminded that and the Taiwanese people treasure the democracy we ourselves have fought for.
