The Commission on Racial Equity, established by the voters, is an independent commission responsible for working with communities to identify and propose priorities to inform the racial equity planning process and action, review and publicly comment upon agency and citywide Racial Equity Plans, publicly track agency compliance with Racial Equity Plans and processes, and receive complaints about agency conduct that may be exacerbating racial disparities.

What’s going on? Judge Phaedra F. Perry-Bond ruled that Mayor Mamdani and his predecessor, Eric Adams, both violated the law by failing to release a plan on time to combat racial disparities in NYC. Yet, the Mamdani administration filed a notice of appeal to overturn this ruling.
Racial equity is the law. NYC CORE is here to ensure that the City protects and uplifts it. Police misconduct is out of control.

JOIN NYC CORE AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO RALLY AGAINST POLICE ABUSE AND MAMDANI ADMINISTRATION’S RACIAL EQUITY APPEAL. $53.5 Million Paid to Resolve NYPD Misconduct Lawsuits in Just Seven Months in 2026 as NYC CORE Declares: “Mamdani Does Not Get a Pass.” Join us Thursday, October 8, 5pm at City Hall Park.

NYC CORE Chair Linda Tigani issued the following statement:  “Police abuse cannot become another line item New Yorkers are simply expected to pay. No mayor gets a pass. At a time when New Yorkers are demanding accountability from the NYPD, this administration is also fighting a racial-equity ruling in court. We believe that sends the wrong message. New Yorkers voted racial equity into our City Charter. A judge enforced the Charter’s requirements. Racial equity is not optional. “

🚨NYC CORE Chair Linda Tigani Announces Lead Researchers for New York City’s Reparations, Truth, Healing & Reconciliation Mandate🚨

Chair Tigani is pleased to announce the lead researchers who will carry forward the historic mandate established under New York City Local Laws 91 and 92 to examine reparations, truth, healing, and reconciliation.

This is a defining moment for New York City. For the first time, the City is undertaking this work through a formal process grounded in research, historical truth, community experience, and a commitment to understanding the enduring consequences of racial injustice.

Linda Tigani said:
“Today, we take an important step toward telling the full story of New York City. Truth requires us to confront history honestly, healing requires us to listen to the communities most impacted, and reconciliation requires us to turn knowledge into meaningful action. This research represents an opportunity to deepen our understanding, honor lived experiences, and help shape a more racially just future for all New Yorkers.”

The start of a nor’easter storm couldn’t stop community members from gathering with NYC CORE and Kelly Price in Harlem, NY. Kelly Price and CORE Chairwoman Linda Tigani discussed the importance of music as a tool for truth, healing, and reconciliation. Kelly Price gave us a melody for the days ahead.

Grateful to NYC Council Member Althea Stevens for presenting Kelly Price with a proclamation at this historic event, and to Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson and NYS Senator Cordell Cleare for sharing powerful words about the importance of NYC CORE and the movement for reparations.

Community members gathered in Harlem, NYC, last night for a NYC CORE racial equity event—and learned that the Mamdani administration is appealing a judge’s ruling that racial equity is the law in NYC and that NYC CORE has the right to hold the administration accountable to it.
